 Ryukyu archipelago

Japan

English (Traduzir este texto em Português): The Ryukyu Islands or more recently the Nansei Islands (which means "southwest islands" in Japanese), are an island chain in the western Pacific Ocean at the eastern limit of the East China Sea.

It stretches southwestward from the island of Kyushu to Taiwan. The islands are administratively divided into Satsunan Islands to the north, belonging to Kagoshima Prefecture, and Ryūkyū Shotō to the south, belonging to Okinawa Prefecture.

The islands have a subtropical climate with warm winters and hot summers. Precipitation is very high, and is affected by the rainy season and typhoons.

The coral reefs of the Ryukyus are one of the World Wildlife Fund's Global 200 ecoregions. The reefs are endangered by sedimentation and eutrophication, mostly a result of agriculture, as well as damage from fishing.

First dive at Ishigaki - The north wind was too strong to try the Manta Scramble spot so we went to this protected place. Still the boat was very small and the ride was very bumpy, but we made it. The day was cold, the water was much warmer and welcoming. This was my wife&#3

Airplane wreck - Seeing boat wrecks is common, but what about aircrafts? We got the chance to see the remains of a WW2 fighter. There wasn't much left: part of the cockpit and part of a wing. We also saw an unexploded bomb... scary.Near the boat I saw people phot

Visit to Okinawa, mostly for diving. We dived several sites at the Kerama islands, near Naha, the main city of Okinawa, and Taketomi, next to Ishigaki island.
